Split the back portion into two sections and grasp a section from the top, rolling inward toward the middle. Pin with vertical bobby pins as you go like you would a French twist. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie and braid down until you reach the ends.
#21: Trendy Beach Waves for Longer Hair
Amp up the sophistication by wrapping a strand of hair over the hair tie to conceal your work. The perfect pony is all about placement—the higher the pony, the greater the volume. "I love how aerodynamic this look is when you have long hair," says celebrity hairstylist Sunnie Brook.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's Beachy Updo
Hold your ponytail upward and close the clip over the underside of the ponytail before letting your hair fall down over it. Flip your head upside down and brush it out to remove any tangles. Start with a section from the nape and begin French braiding upward toward the crown, gathering hair as you go. Separate both thin sections from the front into 4 thin pieces each. Bring the pieces back, starting with the one closest to the crown, and pin in place in a criss-cross fashion. This sleek Dutch braid is formed by crossing the strands underneath (rather than over) as you braid to create this 3D look that’s full of volume.

Adapt the rope braid to your level of braiding to get super easy hairstyles for long straight hair. Once you reach the crown, secure the braid with a hair tie. Wrap the ponytail around the base without coiling it to form a full, chic bun that looks sleek and smooth. Slide bobby pins in around the bun to hold it tightly.

Pin the “knot” section and secure the bottom pieces of the bow with more bobby pins.

Pull out your favorite headband and you’ll be amazed at how simple and fast this look comes together. For another take on balletcore, decorate any lazy girl hairstyle with a few bow-shaped clips.
Just like with the half-up ponytail hairstyle, you’ll want to part your hair from ear-to-ear around the back of your head to create a top and bottom section of hair. The top section should include a little bit less hair than the bottom section. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and twist into a tight bun.

The 2024 Haircut Trends That Will Define The Year Ahead.
Don’t secure the braid – just take the ends and gather the rest of the loose hair from underneath in one hand. With the headband in place, begin bringing up small sections of hair and wrapping them around the headband. With the remaining “tail” of each section, gather a little more unwrapped hair and include it in the next wrap. Loosely twist the ponytail and wrap it around the base to form the messy bun, tugging on random pieces to fluff them out and make the bun look a little lived-in.
Easy braided hairstyles for long hair can instantly glam up your hair for any event. The loose braid will softly flow into a textured bun which has a boho feel to the style and allows your long hair to stay in place all day. A blow-it-out in style looks gorgeous and is easy to copy. Your hair must be long and have medium-length layers to pull off this easy hairstyle for long hair. The blowout effect happens when you blow your hair dry and enhance the movement by adding a few soft curls.
When your locks are as curly as our model’s are, you may want to go for a simple side sweep. With such volume, you can have lots of fun with your hair on one side. Adding some hairpins could help keep the hair in place, on top of all the hairspray, of course. If your hair is more on the wavy side, you can definitely try this boho style out. You just have to make a few fishtail braids and gather the hair off your forehead.
To recreate this look, simply create a loose three-strand braid and secure the end with a hair tie. Taking your updo from average to amazing is as easy as teasing roots, twisting the length of the hair, pinning it in place and finishing with a delicate hair piece. Opt for an accessory with jewels to bring luster to your hairstyle.
If you were ever bored in class and started playing with your hair, you’re halfway there with this look, honey. Start with splitting hair in the back down the middle, then begin a regular three-strand (crossing-over stitch) braid on each section, tying each off with an elastic. When it comes to braids for long hair, easy and elegant should be top criteria. And with the milkmaid braid, you’ll have both in a pinch! It’s pretty, practical and ready to make you have a good hair day, that’s why. A straightforward three-strand plait done in the middle of your mane, to be hidden or not as desired, is as low-key as it gets.
This looks really pretty secured with hair clips. To add a bit of volume to the look, gently tug at the edges of your braid for a looser look. A top knot is another popular updo that’s easy to do with long hair—especially since it can be as messy as you’d like.

Straighteners are a big investment, so you need to make sure you’ve got all your hair needs covered in one tool before you make the commitment to buy. This purse-friendly option is currently less than £26, so bargain hunters, look no further. It claims to heat up in just one minute but our lab test found it took slightly longer to reach its maximum temperature. Ghd's original offering was a hit among our testers for how straightforward it was to use, getting the job done quickly and effectively.
Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream
After extensively testing factors such as maneuverability, performance and temperature range—and re-evaluating over the course of a year—I landed on the top models on the market. I chose the T3 SinglePass StyleMax as the best overall for its excellent straightening and smoothing power. The NuMe Megastar is one of the most effective hair straighteners around. It’ll allow you to personalise your heat setting, with options from 190°F to 450°F (88-232°C), in increments of 20 degrees. It heats up quickly and it’s got some great features, as well, including a large, LED temperature display and floating, tourmaline ceramic plates with genuine give.
What’s the ideal temperature setting for your hair texture and type?
If you do it occasionally or even frequently, but on low heat, your hair won’t be damaged by the process. However, for fine, weak hair, it’s important to use a good conditioner and not apply the heat for too long. They’re not as strong as titanium, so if your hair is really curly, you’re not going to love the result.
MOST POPULAR HAIR STRAIGHTENER ON AMAZON
Our panel praised how soft and silky it left their lengths after drying, often without even having to use the ‘shine shot’ straightening function. Compact and especially good for thin or short hair, Cloud Nine’s mini pair of straighteners make it easy to get down to the root – and always leave hair healthy and shiny in their wake. According to hairstylists, there are a few things to consider when shopping for a hair straightener. This applies even to the most gentle models with low heat and plenty of protection. If you intend to straighten your hair daily, make sure you invest in a really good, delicate straightener, such as the MiroPure Enhanced Hair Straightener Brush.
Imagine being able to straighten your hair on the bus, in a nightclub bathroom, or even while camping; all of this can be achieved with Babyliss’s cordless tool. Definitely the most popular option of all, flat irons feature two heated metal plates that straighten your hair. The plates can be made from different materials, although regardless of the material, they often have a bit of ceramic technology that evens out the heat distribution. Pressing your hair with these heated plates relaxes the hydrogen bonds in the strands, smoothing them out. This spray truly does leave our hair impressively smooth and sleek, rightfully earning its place on this list for its many benefits. Credit a proprietary anti-humidity technology that essentially acts like a raincoat (hence the name), forming a shield to block out frizz-inducing moisture.
No matter your hair type, you’ll be capable of achieving a really smooth look with this product. HSI sports 1″ plates, which means it’s good for really short hair and even bangs, but it will work with long cuts, too. Longer hair will take you a while to style, as 1″ is rather thin for a flat iron.
Although it does not have a digital display, it has smart technology that helps the straightener maintain a preset temperature as you style, according to Ghd. Harvey recommends this tourmaline-infused ceramic iron from Chi because it gives hair a smooth finish. It takes 30 seconds to heat up to the maximum temperature of 425 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the brand. “Its sleek design also makes it easy to straighten, curl or wave [hair] effortlessly,” says Harvey. Our lab test showed that it minimised flyaways and kept locks intact, even in humid conditions, making it a top pick for those with curly, bleached or damaged hair. Our panel of 285 testers — with every type of hair, including straight, wavy, curly, coily and kinky textures — tried a variety of hair straighteners to find the best you can buy.
Best for Touch-Ups: Mane The Three Way Multi-Use Flat Iron
Revlon’s super long, 1-inch-wide tool gave lasting straightness to even the longest, thickest hair. The best way to keep your hair healthy while straightening is with ample prep work. "With over 13 years of experience in the industry and witnessing numerous clients with damaged hair due to improper flat iron use, I strongly advise a specific approach," says Rehkopf. To find the best hair straighteners, we tested 22 models in our lab and in real-world conditions.
At first glance, you may think that every flat iron looks exactly the same. But just as you wouldn’t judge a book by its cover, don’t be swayed by pretty pictures and look at the facts. There are some factors you need to consider when you shop for a new flat iron, and we’re going to talk about all of them. The highest temperature you can achieve with this iron is 450 degrees Fahrenheit. There aren’t many situations in which you’ll need to go all the way up on the temp, but if you ever do, it’s good to have the option.

A Beauty Ed's Honest Review of Dyson's Corrale Straightener.
Expensive hair tools aren’t necessarily “better;” they often just have more accessories and controls—basically, the difference between a five- and three-star hotel. If you want a tool with unique features (like cordless, “smart” technology, copper and ion-infused plates, etc.), you can expect to pay a bit more. Neither ceramic nor titanium is necessarily better or worse—it's just that one plate is likely better for your specific hair type. This titanium iron heats up fast, bringing its plates back to the ideal temperature quickly after each pass, so you won’t need to go over each section multiple times and destroy your hair. To get your hair extra sleek and straight, brush through each section with a fine-tooth comb while following right behind it with the straightener.
In the GHI lab, our experts used a Bossa Nova Shuffle machine to assess how long their style lasted and how much frizz was created in a humid environment. Keep in mind that this iron is fairly thin, measuring at just an inch in width. Perfect for shorter cuts and bangs, decent for long hair if you’ve got enough patience. The design allows you to get quite close to the scalp without hurting yourself, so you don’t really have to worry about having an uneven hair texture. We may earn commission from links on this page, but we only recommend products we love.
Like the other flat irons with titanium plates, you may want to stay away if your hair is damaged. Try out a tourmaline hair iron instead, such as the INFINITIPRO Tourmaline Flat Iron. Instead of just a hair straightener, you receive a decently-sized styling set. You’ll get a velvet bag to store the flat iron in, a glove to keep you safe from heat, and even a travel-sized argan oil hair treatment, which is great for the health of your hair. And speaking of travel, this straightener is dual voltage, so you can still use it when you travel abroad.
There were a few brands that I considered testing, but ultimately they weren’t a good fit. The Cloud Nine Original Flat Iron was not widely available enough, and the L’Oreal Professional Steampod—beloved by some—had mixed reviews compared to other similar high-end straighteners. The straightener is forgiving on the wrist and is more lightweight compared to most of the other models I tested. It has a well-functioning swivel cord, and it comes with a nice silicone sleeve to keep the iron closed before use, for easy transport and to protect fingers during cool down. You indicate your hair thickness and the types of treatments you’ve had (for example, if your hair is coloured, highlighted or relaxed) and it’ll suggest a straightening temperature.
These Remington straighteners use ceramic plates infused with conditioning properties, such as Moroccan argan oil and vitamin E, to keep your hair looking and feeling its very best. Finally, nearly all high-temperature flat irons—those reaching 450 °F—advertise this fact as if it’s a good thing. All three of our experts (stylist, cosmetic chemist, and research consultant) agree that going above 400 °F will damage hair, it’s just a matter of degree depending on your hair thickness and texture. Still, as we noted above, using a slightly hotter temperature in favor of being able to work quickly may help minimize damage, versus applying lower amounts of heat for more time.

Cowboy boots were inspired by riding boots from a variety of cultures. One of the earliest examples of horseback riders wearing heeled boots is that of Mongolian soldiers, who sported bright red heels made of wood. It's thought that the term "well heeled," used to describe someone who is wealthy and often of some sort of nobility, comes from the heeled boots worn while riding horses. The 1940s marked a watershed moment for vintage cowboy boots, driven by the booming popularity of Westerns in movie theaters. The boots began to feature a more distinctly pointed toe, a style that, while less suitable for riding, epitomized the era’s fashion.

Buck Stitch adds a unique and eye-catching detail to the boot top, and it’s a great option for those looking for something different and less mainstream.
Invented in the 1800s, Packer Boots are a kind of hybrid between riding boots and work boots. They have a lot of functionality and can be a good choice for riding horses. Packer boots typically have laces, unlike traditional cowboy boots. Packer boots provide excellent ankle support because of their creative design. They feature a one to two-inch heel and a sturdy rubber outsole for support and traction.
Love the slouchy-boot trend as much as Western-inspired pieces? Buckaroo boots are often chosen for events and occasions where making a bold statement is paramount. They are popular choices for rodeos, performances, and Western-themed gatherings. The rubber soles offer durability and traction essential for rigorous tasks. The rubber sole provides grip and stability, making them suitable for ranch work and outdoor endeavors. These toe types not only provide versatility but also add a touch of stylish charm, particularly appealing for those seeking a fashionable look.

Still, as custom boots were made, cowboys asked for decorative stitching, cutouts in the high tops (early on, often Texas stars), and different materials. The interaction of wild west shows and, later, western movies influenced styles that working cowboys sometimes adopted. They can be made from almost every animal whose skin can be made into leather, including exotic materials such as alligator and ostrich.

I am super excited about today’s post, and I know you will be too when you’ll see all the gold and diamonds. Today I have an awesome interview with you that I did with William Shanor. William is making cowboy boots for over 30 years former teacher at Ashland Oregon shoemaking school. Starting his career as a shoe cobbler, he learned the craft of boot making and developed his own style that you can see in the pictures below.

Some Western work boots are designed with waterproof materials or treatments, making them ideal for wet and muddy conditions often encountered on ranches and farms. Western work boots come in various heights to suit different activities. From ankle boots with a height of around 6 inches for agility to mid-calf boots with a height of 10 to 12 inches for added protection, these boots are built to withstand demanding conditions. While the heel shape might vary, the focus remains on providing stability and support during physically demanding tasks. The heel’s design contributes to the overall balance and resilience of the boot.
The History of Cowboy Boots
These boots used to only be worn for practical and functional purposes. Even though they continue to play a significant role for those in this industry, many now also regard them as high fashion. No matter if you work a job where wearing cowboy boots is required or not, everyone – young and old, men and women – must own a pair.

Today, cowboy boots are more than just footwear; they symbolize tradition, individuality, and the spirit of adventure, continuing to leave their unique mark on the world. Whether worn on a dusty ranch or a chic runway, they remain a timeless testament to American culture. In contrast to the fashionable pointed toe, the “roper” style emerged as a practical response. Named for its association with calf roping, the roper boot’s rounded toe, shorter shaft, and stable heel were designed for comfort and functionality. Ropers provided a connection to tradition while meeting the modern cowboy’s needs, adding another dimension to the cowboy boot’s identity. Calf roping became a rodeo event, which led to a rise in popularity of the Roper style.

Tooling, or hand tooling, is a design technique that involves using various shaped tools to stamp patterns or textures onto the leather. This creates unique designs such as flowers, skulls, or other intricate patterns. Tooling can be seen on the entire boot or just on the tops, also known as the shaft.
The walking heel, characterized by its broader and flatter design, contributes to the overall comfort and support of roper boots. This heel design allows for extended periods of wear without discomfort. The Blend of Comfort and Versatility of Roper boots are a testament to the evolution of cowboy footwear, focusing on comfort without compromising style or function.
The craft of "bootmaking" and "shoemaking" flourished alongside the popularity of cowboy boots. Bootmakers began to experiment with diverse forms and shoe patterns, and new procedures were devised to make the boots more comfortable and durable. The "shoe last" became a crucial component in cowboy boot production since it allowed bootmakers to provide a unique fit for each client. Square-toe boots offer the most space with their wide width, making them quite comfortable for every kind of activity. This shape is cut straight across like a square, as the name suggests. Crafted from high-quality materials with detailed stitching or embroidery, dress boots provide a more professional feel for nicer events like weddings.

The amplification increased the ship’s gross tonnage, and she now overtakes sister ship Allure of the Seas in the list of the world’s top 10 largest cruise ships.

How do we determine the size of cruise ships for comparison?
The largest cruise ship currently in service is Wonder of the Seas, an Oasis-class vessel operated by Royal Caribbean. The ship is similar in design to her sister ships but adds some additional features and evolves the class. Wonder of the Seas is a massive 236,857 gross tons with a guest capacity of 5,734 at double occupancy. As of February 2024[update], there are 68 passenger ships with over 135,000 GT in service. The younger set will love the Aquaplay spray area, and guests of all ages can climb the Himalayan bridge, a rope course that crosses the ship high above the water. As an EVO ship, MSC Seashore offers improved technology to increase efficiency and reduce her carbon footprint. The energy-efficient equipment includes an advanced wastewater purification system and Safe Air, a new sanitation system that eliminates viruses and bacteria. To calculate GT, first a ship’s volume is calculated by measuring from keel to funnel to the outside of the hull framing. That number (in cubic meters) is then run through several mathematical formulas to determine GT.
This will be a transformational venue where guests can enjoy wraparound ocean views during the day, including an inspiring waterfall. The cruise line will be revealing even more details about the ship as its debut draws closer. The cruise's planned routes include a seven-night sail in the eastern Caribbean, which includes stops in Mexico, Saint Maarten, and the Bahamas. Eight ships with a gross tonnage of more than 100,000 each are set to debut this year, according to a consolidated order book by Cruise Industry News.

An exclusive look at the world's largest cruise ship.
The Titanicae isn’t just a marvel of size; it’s a masterclass in deck design. Each deck feels like a new chapter in an epic tale of luxury and adventure. It’s where passengers like me can stroll along the Lido Deck, sunbathe, or take a dip in one of the many pools that sparkle under the sun’s warm embrace. The designers of the Titanicae didn’t just focus on size but also on state-of-the-art technology. The ship boasts advanced stabilization systems that help provide a smooth sailing experience, even when navigating through choppier waters. This innovation ironically makes you forget you’re gliding on the high seas—it’s that seamless.

These ships are so massive that they dwarf the Titanic — which was once the largest ship in the world — several times over. During the day, the space busts with life, housing art auctions, dance classes, and even cooking demonstrations. At night, the same spaces transform into something almost magical—moonlit parties, open-air movies, and venues that offer live music that cuts through the ocean breeze. In the realm of entertainment, I found the Titanicae’s options to be revolutionary. The ship features a Broadway-style theater, a state-of-the-art casino, and even an interactive game show room.
Viking Saturn (Viking Cruises)
When MSC’s Meraviglia entered service in 2017, she was the sixth-largest cruise ship in the world—but has since fallen to #15, tied with her newer sister ship Bellissima. Harmony of the Seas was the first in the class to feature the 10-Story Ultimate Abyss slide, which is located aft of the ship above the AquaTheater. The slide has since been a major feature on new Oasis-class vessels and added during refurbishments. Entertainment abounds on this ship, from the splashy Aqua80 show in the AquaTheater to Music Hall, a live music venue with plenty of floor space for dancing. Or try one of the four onboard water slides including the ten-story-high Ultimate Abyss.

I spent hours unwinding here, just soaking up the quiet elegance amid the gentle sea breeze. Overall, the Titanicae is more than just a cruise ship; it’s a destination in itself, aiming to redefine the standard for luxury voyages and attract tourists from all corners of the globe. Interestingly, all five of the largest ships in the world are owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. What’s more, the next ship set to take the lead in 2024 is Icon of the Seas which is also a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The vessel is different from other large ships in the cruise industry and boasts features like the Zipline and the AquaTheater.

(I won’t go into all of that here, but if you’re interested the US Coast Guard has a simplified guide to measuring gross tonnage). Royal Caribbean’s leaders say they view liquified natural gas as a “transitional fuel,” and that they hope to continue to reduce the environmental impact of their ships moving forward. With progress on Icon of the Seas moving along, Royal Caribbean has already started building another large “icon class” ship. The cruise line expects that unnamed vessel to launch in 2025, per a statement. Last month, the vessel sailed the open ocean for the first time, as staffers spent four days testing the main engines, hull, brakes, steering system and other components. The cruise line is positioning the vessel as “the ultimate family vacation,” as CEO Michael Bayley told reporters earlier this year, per CNN’s Maureen O’Hare.
If you compare the two you will see that there is very little between Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, apart from a marginal difference in gross tonnage/length. The ship was finally delivered from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland after a delay on December 5, 2019. Her first regular voyage departed Savona on December 31, 2019; however, there was a special voyage for travel agents that departed Barcelona, Spain on December 18, 2019.
